PayPoster is a new guerilla marketing resource that utilizes QR code technology to embed web-linked affiliate advertisements into printed posters and flyers for distribution in the real world. Once posted, smart phone users can easily scan them, and be taken to a web site.  PayPoster’s growing army of guerilla marketers are paid commissions on sales generated by the flyers and posters they distribute.

Here at Affiliate Millions, we believe PayPoster is the future of not only affiliate marketing but guerilla marketing too.

Amazon still Allows Direct Search Marketing.

January 7, 2008 on 4:57 pm | In Affiliate Marketing News | No Comments

With the announcement last month that eBay UK would join eBay US in disallowing direct search marketing, I decided to check on another favorite brand of mine, Amazon.com, to make sure they still allow the practice.

After reading their updated terms and conditions, I was completely uncertain, so I simply wrote the Amazon Associates Program and asked them.  Here is the relevant protion of their reply;

You are still welcome to advertise Amazon.com on search engines and link directly to our site. However, please note that we do not allow the use of Amazon keywords or any variation of the word Amazon for the search terms of the ad. You are welcome to use “Amazon” in the ad title, ad copy and the display URL.”

Perhaps this is a bit of a non-news item, since Amazon’s policy on direct search remains unchanged, but I felt my reader’s might be wondering, with other big companies moving away from direct search, and since the terms and conditions did not clearly state whether or not this was allowed, I felt I should help get a clear answer out there for everyone.

eBay UK follows eBay US and disallows direct search for affiliates

December 19, 2007 on 9:17 pm | In Affiliate Marketing News | No Comments

I received the following email from eBay UK yesterday.  It seems they will no longer allow direct search for affiliate advertisers.

Dear Affiliate,

The eBay.co.uk team is constantly re-evaluating the affiliate programme and in doing so has decided on a couple of changes detailed below.

New Rules for Paid Search AffiliatesUnfortunately, from 1st February 2008 we will no longer compensate for Paid Search traffic from Google, Yahoo or MSN, if directly linked to an ebay.co.uk page. After this time, any earnings from revenue or ACRUs generated through direct Paid Search will be reversed. This applies to the UK affiliate programme only. For further details click here.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all Paid Search affiliates for the hard work they’ve put in since joining the programme – the eBay UK affiliate team really appreciate your commitment.

But it doesn’t all have to end here! We’d love to keep you on board, so do check out the other business models out there and as an added incentive for you to do so, see the announcement about the pricing increase below. We really want to keep you as part of the eBay team, so if you’d like to discuss your options with us, you can always contact us using the following email address: ukaffiliates@ebay.com

eBay Changes Payout Structure

May 31, 2007 on 11:01 pm | In Affiliate Marketing News | No Comments

The big news this week in the Affiliate Program world is that eBay is changing its program terms. Some of the changes are positive – check out the new payout structureBut one change is troubling. As of June 1, 2007, eBay will no longer allow search marketers to link directly to the eBay.com site. Up until now, eBay has been one of the most search marketing friendly programs on the web, and one of the largest, too.  Hopefully, this experiment will show eBay just how effective their search marketing affiliates really have been, as the cost of writing and running ads on an almost infinite number of keywords relative to their product line, and the hassle of constantly adding new ones, becomes better known.  If eBay declares this experiment a success, however, other internet giants – and smaller companies as well – could follow suit.  Whatever the future holds, however, you can rest assured that Affiliate Millions will do its best to help you adapt to the changing environment.  In next month’s newsletter, I will try to put together some advice on creating simple landing pages to link to eBay with (a practice still allowed under the new rules).
