August 2008 Newsletter
August 26, 2008 on 6:41 pm | In Newsletter Archives | 2 CommentsHi Everyone, Sorry for the delay in publishing this newsletter. My move has proved far more challenging than I first anticipated.
I’ll keep this letter short. A LOT of you have been writing and complaining about how increasingly difficult it is to find programs that still allow direct search marketing without a website, and although there are still some that do allow this (most notably Amazon.com), I too have been having difficulty finding new programs. As a result, I have come to the conclusion that it may soon be next to impossible to make money in search marketing without a website, and I am sadly advising even those who have met with some early success to start strongly considering developing and testing landing pages, in order to continue to compete in the future.

But this is what the affiliate millions website is for… to address changes after the book was published. Realizing – as I do – that many of you are most attracted to this business model because of low startup costs, I have done my best to identify affordable solutions to the added burden of developing a website. Free website templates and simple instructions are still available on my website; www.affiliatemillions.com/web-design.html , along with affordable web design companies capable of developing sites tailored to whatever affiliate programs you wish to promote.
I also have found what I believe is the absolute best deal on affordable and service-rich web hosting. Blue Host’s hosting plan includes: – 1 Free Domain – Free Setup – 300 Gigs of Storage Space – 3,000 Gigs of Transfer – 2500 E-Mail Accounts – SSH, Perl, MySQL, FrontPage Extension Support, Fantastico, WYSIWYG Site Builder, Free Marketing Services and more. - Unlimited domains can be hosted for no extra charge on 1 account
I will continue to search for solutions to the new challenges that are the one constant in this industry. Good Luck, Affiliate Millionaires in training!

Anthony,
I appreciate your honesty and I know these new developments are not your ‘fault’, but this is a major buzzkill to say the least. I just got through reading, rereading and highlighting the key points of your book and a couple other books related to search marketing and google ads, plus I bought $2,000 worth of google ads to start this off right. Last night I literally had just purchased wordtracker, started researching keywords for my first campaign, then went to your site and read this discussion board for the first time. Now, it kinda sounds like the party is over for search marketing without a website, which seems kind of incredible to me considering that there are so many products out there on the internet wih affiliate programs. Why would there be such a movement towards shutting down this type of marketing- I dont really understand.
What about clickbank.com? Any experience with them? Not sure which way to go at this point. Affiliate marketing in tandem with maintaining several websites is less appealing to me than the strategies outlined in your book.

Drew,
The party isn’t completely over, but it definitely appears to winding down on direct search. I share your feelings on the reduced appeal of maintaining websites, mainly because its more work and generally less lucrative than direct search, but it’s still not a LOT of work and it less lucrative doesn’t mean it isn’t worth the time at all.
Considering your investment already, I’d definitely try to apply what you’ve learned about direct search marketing to market a simple page of your own. I have a couple free templates on my website you can use if you like, but nowadays, professional web-design isn’t too expensive, so if you’ve got an idea for a site, you can probably get it going fast and cheap. I’d recommend working with Blue Host, as they are both inexpensive and reliable.
Good luck,
Tony
