Product Selection?

Hello Tony,

I just finished reading your book, actually, I’ve been through it twice, and appreciated the “no nonsense” approach you take when explaining this business. I have a question that Jason also hit on in an earlier post. I’ve run many campaigns, some with limited success, and my biggest road block seems to be product selection.

My question would be, do you think product selection based on popularity (search traffic, etc.) is better than program earnings? I’ve marketed a few high network earning products, had great CTR, but little or no conversions. In comparison, when I’ve marketed targeted products or product lines using targeted, narrow keywords, I’ve had more success.

I get the feeling from your book, and some of your posts here that you go more for the high volume, high competition products, and beat them with better ad copy. Is this a correct assumption?

Thanks,

Shawn

  1. Shawn,

You are correct that I made most of my money targeting high volume keywords, and using better ad copy to beat out the competition, but even though I haven’t had as much success with so-called “long-tail” strategies as some folks, I do know that they can be made to work.

Rather than push everyone to do it my way, I you to try both strategies and see what works best for you. We are all put together just a little differently, and although I found that an aggressive strategy of targeting high volume keywords worked well for me, some people will definitely have the opposite experience.

    Tony
