EPC on CJ
February 24, 2008 on 10:07 pm | In Questions and Comments | 1 CommentHi Tony,
I have been looking for something to provide some additional income and came across your book. I found it very informative and easy to follow. THank you for writing it. I do have a couple questions though that I hope you can help me with.
1) On CJ, I was curious about the 3 month EPC and 7 day EPC. I noticed that often, the 7 day EPC is much higher than the 3 month EPC, why would this be? I’m assuming it may be due to leads that are generated and commision paid for, but no sales generated as a result? But when I look at the earnings trend, for the 30 day period, it shows consistently the 7 day EPC is quite high, so I don’t fully understand why this wouldn’t translate into the 3 month EPC.
2) I am new at this, and was wondering if you have any advise on how many campaigns it is generally good to start off with? Can a person make a good start with only one or two campaigns, or is that a recipe for failure? I know that in investing, diversification is key, so I would assume the same applies here?
Thanks again!

Afb,
Thanks for buying my book. I am glad you liked it.
As for the 7 day and 3 month EPCs, some companies do a lot better during some seasons than others. If the 7 day EPC continues to do well, you will slowly see that reflected in the 3 month EPC, but it’ll take more than just one month to have a big impact.
As for the number of campaigns to start with… this is a numbers game, and since most camapigns will not make you money, you will probably need to try a lot of campaigns, but don’t do the all at once. The trick is to closely manage one or two, and identify clear losers quickly and move on to another. When you get a campaign that makes money, breaks even or even comes close, that’s when you want to spend a little more time and money seeing what you can do with it.
By the way, I know I mentioned it in the book, but I want to continue to remind folks that Amazon.com is an excellent program to cut your teeth on. They have proven potential to make money for search marketers (though I’m not sure you’ll get rich) and because they have a broad selection of products and services, you can learn a lot about what you are and aren’t good at selling online. Once you’ve made Amazon profitable for you, you can move on to other programs – that while unproven – a portion of which may be potentially much more profitable, and you can move on to those programs with the confidence that you are capable ofmaking a proven campaign work for you.
