eBay UK follows eBay US and disallows direct search for affiliates
December 19, 2007 on 9:17 pm | In Affiliate Marketing News | No CommentsI received the following email from eBay UK yesterday. It seems they will no longer allow direct search for affiliate advertisers.
Dear Affiliate,
The eBay.co.uk team is constantly re-evaluating the affiliate programme and in doing so has decided on a couple of changes detailed below.
New Rules for Paid Search AffiliatesUnfortunately, from 1st February 2008 we will no longer compensate for Paid Search traffic from Google, Yahoo or MSN, if directly linked to an ebay.co.uk page. After this time, any earnings from revenue or ACRUs generated through direct Paid Search will be reversed. This applies to the UK affiliate programme only. For further details click here.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all Paid Search affiliates for the hard work they’ve put in since joining the programme – the eBay UK affiliate team really appreciate your commitment.
But it doesn’t all have to end here! We’d love to keep you on board, so do check out the other business models out there and as an added incentive for you to do so, see the announcement about the pricing increase below. We really want to keep you as part of the eBay team, so if you’d like to discuss your options with us, you can always contact us using the following email address: ukaffiliates@ebay.com

Pricing Increase for eBay.co.uk AffiliatesGood news, early in 2008 we’re increasing the eBay.co.uk affiliate programme pricing to continue to reward and recognise quality traffic & incentivise further growth from our affiliates. We’ll be publishing the new payment structure very soon – do look out for further communication from us.

2007 Holiday Newsletter
December 19, 2007 on 9:14 pm | In Newsletter Archives | No CommentsMerry Christmas Everybody!
In recognition of the holidays it will just be a short newsletter, but there are a couple pieces of news, and some seasonal offers, that I thought I should let everyone know about.
First, some more big news this week in the Affiliate Program world. I received notice this week that eBay UK is following eBay.com in no longer allowing search marketers to link directly to the eBay.co.uk site. They will still allow you to set up your own website to promote eBay UK, and I remind you all that my free web site templates are available at www.AffiliateMillions.com/web-design.html, and can help make the process of deploying a site of your own as easy is possible.
Seasonal Affiliate Programs This issue’s focus is on seasonal Affiliate Network offers.

Trust Issue
December 19, 2007 on 5:47 pm | In Questions and Comments | 1 CommentHi,
I had an unpleasant thought cross my mind last night and would need some advice and clarification on this. Even though we can see our performance data on CJ, what guarantee do we have that the advertiser will not ‘’screw” us out of commissions? Excuse my expression. But, on the CJ reports, it might indicate that indeed 200 clicks were sent to the website we are promoting, if 75 of those clicks turn out to be actual sales, how can we know this for sure? I’m worried the advertiser can play around with this and say I only made 50 sales…is there a way to track?
Thanks.

Average clicks per month
December 19, 2007 on 4:48 pm | In Questions and Comments | 1 CommentHi,
AFter how many clicks can one expect to see one turn into a conversion? Do you have approximations? I sent 100 clicks in one week to the advertiser’s website but still have no conversions. Is it too early to tell? The company does not have any EPC’s data, they are new. How much time should I give this campaign before I turn it off? I have not lost much money yet. I have lost one third of what I invested.
Sincerely,
J.
Clicks don’t match..
December 15, 2007 on 9:17 pm | In Questions and Comments | 3 CommentsI know you say in your book that the clicks total on the affiliate network’s site, and adwords may be different. I checked all my links, and even updated them, but I am showing a big difference in the number of clicks Google is showing me in comparison to CJ.com. Should I not worry?
Also, why not use all bracketed key words? Should I choose position preference? What kind of click volume do you shoot for with a big company? small company? How many keywords is too many, how many is too few?
In your book you don’t speak about the CPC minimums. If you don’t post the minimum does your ad still get business? Do you determine your minimum CPC based on the time of day/year? Should “% served” = 100? Does creating more ad variations increase your sales?
I have more questions, but I think that’s enough for now..
PLEASE HELP & Thanks,
Adam
Invalid Links
December 5, 2007 on 2:40 pm | In Questions and Comments | 3 CommentsTony,
I have been checking the invalid link report on Commission Junction to make sure that all my ads are up and running. Each day there are a number that show up as invalid. When I login to Google Adwords and check the ads some of them have extra information added to the destination URL.
An example would be the link that I submit:
http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-2743416-10499214
When I check on the invalid links to follow up this is what they look like:
http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-2743416-10499214?_kk={keyword}&_kt=e40fbd84-e92f-4984-ae4f-0dcfa5dbf20b
Any thoughts or advice on how to stop this from happening?
Thanks
