Thanks For Writing Such A Great Book!

Hi Tony

I am writing from Singapore. A tiny country just below Malaysia. I came across Affiliate Millions in a local bookstore recently, bought it and have finished reading the whole book. It is very interesting, well written, easy to understand and topics are very organized. It is a must have step-by-step guide for any person who aspire to be a Search Marketer.

I have also started joining a few affiliate networks and do encounter some hiccups here and there. Below are some problems I have encountered:
- Affiliate Fuel rejected my application. I applied as a Search Marketer and stated a search engine as the URL. Can you help?
- A number of affiliate programs disallow search marketer to use the actual website as Display URL in search engines. When generating a Keyword Link, I have gotten URLs that look like this e.g. www.rzgbb.com/click-21333-555. It is very unlikely for a user to click a display URL that shows www.rzgbb.com. Any suggestions?
- As a guide, if the 7 Days EPC is $13, what is the ideal range we should bid for the max. CPC in search engines? Any other considerations to maximise Net Return?

I am new to affiliate marketing and want to succeed as a Search Marketer. Hope you can share more of your experience with us (newbies) so that we can be successful and able to have ’success stories’ to share with everybody. Thank you once again for the very informative book!

  1. Sebastion,

Thanks for your kind words about my book. Feel free to write a review on Amazon if you like. The link to my book page is Affiliate Millions: Make a Fortune using Search Marketing on Google and Beyond and if you scroll down you can select “write a review”. My publisher is always hounding me to ask people about this.

    On to your problems.

-AffiliateFuel: If you re-apply and type ‘tonybbb’ into the ‘referred by’ field, my account manager at AffiliateFuel will see the application and he has promised me he will help to identify and work through any issues that arise.

-Affiliate Programs dis-allowing use of their domain name as display URL: A number of affiliate programs do not allow direct seach marketing, in which case you would need to create a landing page of your own if you still wanted to market that program. I have some tools that could help on the AffiliateMillions.com website. Judging from the tracking code you provided, however, you may be misinterpreting the rules. A tracking server link must be used in the destination URL for you to get paid, but the Display URL does not need to match the tracking server domain (usually gibberish like you showed above). It only needs to match the domain the link actually brings you to.

-Seven Day EPC as a guide: Well, the EPCs reported make poor guides because they are not based just on search traffic, but also on a variety of other web site traffic. Since you have to start somewhere, you could simply bid .13 per click in the hope that search returns will closely match overall returns, but you need to watch your returns very closely in the begining. If search returns turn out to be much lower than that seven day EPC figure suggests, your 13 cent bid could get you a lot of clicks, but lose you a lot of money. On the other hand, if search returns are much higher, you could be bidding way to low and get very little traffic to judge the potential by. I know this isn’t a LOT of help, but the simple fact is those EPCs aren’t very good predictors.

    Tony
