Having a hard time with Amazon due to similar URL’s…
August 8, 2007 on 6:03 am | In Questions and Comments | 2 CommentsHi Anthony/Greg,
Like everyone else want to thank you for writing the book. Have gotten a lot out of it. I’ve been doing some Adwords work with Amazon and find that I’m often stuck without ads showing due to a previously existing marketer running an ad with an Amazon URL too. Since they presumably have history to base their quality score on and I don’t, am I doomed to bidding an unprofitable amount for a while to build my own history for those keywords or is there a better way? I sure hate to burn cash if there is another option…

Korak,
Sorry for the delay responding. Had an issue with my Administrator account that I just resolved.
Don’t be fooled by Google’s “Minimum Bid” amount into bidding too much. Even if you bid below that amount, and they mark your keyword “Inactive”, they will still give you a few impressions now and ten to test your ad against that keyword. If you’ve written a good ad, and the CTR is higher than average, Google will lower that supposed “minimum” and start showing your ad more. It can take a while, but you needn’t think that te only way to test your new ad is to bid above that minimum bid level.
Of course, if you want to speed things up, that minimum bid figure can be useful, as it tells you how much you have to bid to get your ad showing more often. But anytime you bid aggressively, watch that campaign closely, because you can lose a lot of money fast.
Tony
