Can You Use Other Link Types in Search Marketing
July 13, 2007 on 12:36 pm | In Questions and Comments | 3 CommentsHere’s another question, can you use the link in a banner or text link ad for your search marketing, or do you have to use the link that is generated when you click on keyword links in CJ? I was thinking of trying various ads with different landing pages.

Any destination link will work, but the clients will likely not appreciate you borrowing the destination link from banners (or text links if you aren’t using the text) as this will hurt their ability to track the performance of their various creatives.
If you can’t get to the landing page you want using the creatives or tools available, talk to the client (CJ will let you send messages to the Affiliate Program manager for most affiliate programs). They may create a link for you to reach the page you want, or they may give you permission to use the destination link of one of their banners if they are not particularly concerned about tracking their individual creatives performances (I have actually gotten permission to use a banner’s destination link on my search ad in the past).
Always get permission, though, if you want to try something like that. Your earnings could be forfeit if you do it without permission.
